I am not in condition of affording a car.
Will appriciate your help in suggesting surrounding area;s where i can find reasonable rented studios,
As i am single, likes go out for dinning and may be clubbing around once in a while in weekends.

Phx can be tough without a car...mass transit is spread a little thin here.

the metro center area prob has alot of affordable rentals..studios & the like.its not a great neighborhood...not 2 bad safety wise (i'm a bronx boy though...)

for clubs, dining & the like i would say the west side does not have much to offer... you'll be heading to the Tempe/Scottsdale area with the exception being the first friday art walk in downtown phx.you'll find all the big chain resturaunts up by metro...hope this helps

a Bus could get u from downtown to Metro & back during a regular M- F commute.

I would prefer living downtown...maybe close to the new branch of ASU ??

Raj living downtown Phoenix would not be similar to living in town in San Fran. The area can be quite rough. Maybe you could look at the area near the International School of Business near Bell Road and 59th Ave. It is in a nice area and on a bus line. My son recently moved to newly remodeled apartments in that area called Sagewood. It might be a bit more difficult getting to night life activities but the area might be something you would want to look into.

I'd suggest downtown if you're looking for anything in that area. It's not the most happening downtown, in that nearly everything shuts down on weeknights (similarly to LA) yet....from my own personal experience I'd much rather live in downtown Phoenix than near Metrocenter. I personally don't like the west side of Phoenix at all. I think it's gross, ugly, and there's nothing to do.

If you have a car, Scottsdale or Tempe would be a nice option. If not, I'd say check downtown out.

Downtown nightlife isn't terrible... but it's not terribly obvious either. You can't really just walk around and find sweet stuff, but if you know where to go, there's plenty to keep you entertained. There's a pretty groovy scene down there with some really creative people. Being able to bike around to the various art galleries would probably help to compensate for the bummer of riding the bus to and from work every day.
